The Legend of Zelda was released in 1992 to continue the Zelda series
and try to keep the game elements of the original for the NES, unlike
Zelda 2 for the NES which was a side scroller.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is the only Zelda game for the
SNES, and, in my opinion, it is the best. It has a lot of hidden items,
several unexpected game twists, and excellent control and gameplay.
