Read it and Wiip: Wii-mote Is Banned in the U.S.
Growing up in the 90s meant that behind every closed door in government buildings, medical labs and city morgues, conspiracies were being formed, and, yeah, that didn't bode well with the "counter-cultural" attitudes of post-grunge pop-America. Not in the least. Despite housing a cancerous skepticism for, basically, every institution in the world, I never would have imagined behind-the-scenes intrigue centering around...a video game remote.
That's right, in a recent watershed patent case a ban has been placed on the standard Wii-mote controller included with the console. The judgment fell in favor of Anascape, Ltd., which has been at this for a while. Nintendo has already filed an appeal.
But what does this mean for Nintendo and its bread-and-butter? For now, Nintendo will post the required bond while it brings its Patent-Infringement appeal to court. Whether or not Nintendo will have to pay the $21 million owed to Anascape is still unknown. But, with "sufficient evidence" showing Nintendo to be in the wrong, it appears to be only a matter of time before the gaming console monolith is forced to pony-up the dough.
