The Ring killed you via VHS tape and land lines, and FeardotCom did it over the internet with fatal TCP/IP packets. Next year, Calling will kill you with the Wii.

“Players will be asked to use their wits and senses to survive the world of Calling,” said Mike Pepe, Director of Marketing of Hudson Entertainment. “It is a game that revolves around real people and real emotions – no chain saws or suits of armor. The game is traditional survival horror at its finest.”

A little snippet from the Calling page:

"When tales of "The Black Page" start circling, curiosity gets the best of you. Although "The Black Page" is just an ink black website with an ominous hit counter, rumor has it that if you see "something", you'll die within a matter of time of visiting and you'll be added to the death count. Some say the site is a hoax, a prank, or a marketing ploy, but others say the site is a bridge to something sinister. But you've seen "something" and now you're trapped in "The Black Page," the in-between of life and death. Can you escape from your fate or will you become another number on the death toll?"

Calling looks like a fun little game to help casual gamers smoothly segue into the world of games that scare the crap out of players - psychologically. I did it way back in the day with Clive Barker's Undying, and I can honestly say I'm a better man today.

Calling is in development by Hudson Entertainment, will be exclusive to Nintendo Wii, and comes out some time in 2010. So ditch the Wii bowling and stop planting pretty flower patches in Cooking Mama and prepare to man up, Nancy!
